Huishan Zhang **H.N.D**
Each year in June, two world-class fashion colleges in London from the University of the Arts hosts their end-of-year shows. Students all over fervently preparing for their big moment in the limelight with the press and fashion editors piling in to find the ‘next big thing’.
Over many years, the London College of Fashion and Central St Martins have given us talented designers like Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, Matthew Williamson, Stella McCartney and John Galliano to name a few.
One such talent that stood out for me is Huishan Zhang, my hot new designer (HND) this week. A graduate from Central St Martins, Huishan Zhang’s elegant lace and organza creations are sumptuous, feminine and contours women’s bodies beautifully. I love the contrast of the black ornate lace layered on the ivory-coloured organza. It’s a striking combination where craft meet luxury.

Coming from the East, I’ve seen numerous times how Chinese inspired fabrics and patterns are used to create new contemporary pieces but always fail miserably in the end. It’s a very fine line and only the skilled will succeed with the right use of fabric, colour and good old-fashion tailoring.
